C4 Wolverine Black Silicone Freediving Training Fins
The C4 Wolverine Black is a compact silicone training fin designed for freedivers who want to improve technique, leg engagement and finning mechanics without always using full-length carbon fins.
Built for dynamic apnea, pool training and freediving technique work, the Wolverine gives you a shorter blade with a serious training feel. The soft silicone construction keeps the fin comfortable and flexible, while the wide, ribbed blade provides more structure, directional control and elastic response than ordinary short swim fins.
If you want a fin for technical pool sessions, travel, regular conditioning or focused kick mechanics, the C4 Wolverine is exactly where short fins start to make sense for freediving.
Why choose the C4 Wolverine?
Many short fins are made for general swimming fitness. The Wolverine is different. C4 designed it around the needs of freedivers and fin-swimming athletes, with a blade shape that keeps the movement closer to real freediving finning.
The result is a compact fin that does not feel flimsy. It gives enough resistance to train the legs properly, enough flexibility to maintain ankle movement, and enough structure to avoid the sloppy kick pattern common with generic short fins.
Main benefits
- Soft silicone blade for comfort, flexibility and controlled movement
- Compact training length for pool work, travel and regular technique sessions
- Structured blade with vertical ribs for stability, elastic return and directional control
- Wide water-bearing surface for a stronger training response than typical short swim fins
- Left/right specific foot pockets for a more natural anatomical fit
- Arch support and open heel design for comfort during longer sessions
- Suitable for beginners and advanced freedivers who want specific finning practice
- Ideal for dynamic apnea, pool technique and CWT preparation
Built for freediving training, not generic swimming
The Wolverine is best understood as a freediving training tool. It is short enough to be practical in the pool and easy to carry, but structured enough to keep the movement relevant for apnea disciplines.
Use the C4 Wolverine for:
- Dynamic apnea training
- Pool technique sessions
- Finning drills
- Ankle mobility and articulation
- Leg conditioning
- Warm-up work before depth sessions
- Travel when full-length fins are inconvenient
- Beginners learning efficient bifin movement
- Advanced divers refining kick quality under fatigue
The Wolverine is not the best choice if your only goal is maximum propulsion in open water. For deep sessions, long surface swims or maximum efficiency, a full-length carbon fin such as the C4 Protech Freediving Fins will make more sense. For training mechanics, conditioning and pool work, the Wolverine is the sharper tool.
Comfort and fit
The C4 Wolverine uses a pre-shaped right and left foot pocket, rather than a generic symmetrical shape. This gives a more natural fit around the foot, supported by an internal arch shape and an open heel design.
The soft silicone material helps reduce harsh pressure points while still keeping the fin stable enough for controlled training. If you are between sizes or want extra comfort during longer sessions, pair the fins with thin neoprene socks.

Who should use the C4 Wolverine?
Choose the Wolverine if you want a fin for regular freediving training rather than only recreational swimming. It is especially useful for divers who want to improve technique, train legs and ankles, or practise dynamic apnea without always bringing long fins to the pool.
The C4 Wolverine is a smart choice for:
- Freediving beginners building clean bifin technique
- Pool-based dynamic apnea training
- Advanced freedivers who want specific conditioning work
- Travelling freedivers who need a compact training fin
- Divers who want to preserve a freediving-style kick in shorter fins
Who should choose something else?
Choose full-length carbon or fiberglass fins instead if you want maximum efficiency for depth diving, long open-water swims or high-performance open-water freediving. The Wolverine is a training fin first. It is deliberately compact and structured for technique, not built to replace long carbon fins for serious depth sessions.
If you are looking for a full-length carbon upgrade, compare the Wolverine with the C4 Protech Freediving Fins. The Wolverine is the training tool; the Protech is the open-water performance step up.
Recommended training setup
For pool technique sessions, pair the Wolverine with a Front Snorkel so you can keep a neutral head position and focus on kick mechanics.
For trim and body-position work, a neck weight such as the C4 Carbon D&D Collar can make sense when your training requires a more disciplined horizontal position.
For extra comfort inside the foot pocket, use thin neoprene socks if needed. The C4 0.5 mm Open Heel Socks are the most direct match when available.
FAQ
Are the C4 Wolverine fins good for beginners?
Yes. They are suitable for beginners who want to learn proper freediving finning technique, especially in the pool. They are soft, compact and easier to manage than full-length carbon fins, while still being more specific to freediving than ordinary swim fins.
Are they only for pool training?
No. The Wolverine is especially useful in the pool, but it can also be used for freediving technique work, warm-ups, travel and selected open-water training. For maximum depth efficiency, full-length freediving fins are still the better choice.
Are the C4 Wolverine fins good for dynamic apnea?
Yes. Dynamic apnea is one of the strongest use cases for the Wolverine. The compact length, soft silicone material and structured blade make it useful for technique, conditioning and controlled finning work.
Are these fins the same as short swim fins?
No. Ordinary short swim fins are usually designed for general swimming fitness. The Wolverine is designed as a freediving-specific training fin, with a wider structured blade, right/left foot pockets and a kick feel closer to freediving movement.
What sizes are available?
The C4 Wolverine Black is available in EU sizes 36/37, 38/39, 40/41, 42/43 and 44/45.
Should I wear socks with them?
If the foot pocket already fits well, you can use them barefoot. If you want more comfort, protection from rubbing or a slightly more secure feel, use thin neoprene socks. Avoid thick socks unless you intentionally need to reduce extra space inside the foot pocket.
